Rosedale Primary School
We Can Grow Breakfast Club

At Rosedale Rascals Breakfast Club, we have been very lucky to have ‘We Can Grow’ come in every Wednesday. Children, ranging from nursery age to year 6, who joined are having a fabulous time doing lots of different activities, including finding out where in the world some of the vegetables we buy come from and the distance they could have travelled. They have also learnt different families of vegetables, how to plant and how to care for them.
Every Wednesday the children are excited and look forward to working with the ‘We Can Grow’ team.
“I like it because you can grow vegetables – I’m growing cabbages”
“The best bit is growing our own vegetables”
The children have also learnt to make their own plant pots out of newspaper.
“I have made pots out of newspaper, you roll it, squish it, put some soil in and then plant a seed and water”
During a session when everyone was making plant pots to plant their own peas the children came up with a saying:
“Perfect Paper Pot Pea Production”
This is one of the things that has really stuck in the children’s minds and something that when are making newspaper pots they work together as a team saying their rhyme.
The whole school has shown a real interest and respect for the plants, vegetables that they are seeing grow. Children are showing more care for plants and respect for what the club have been doing. It is something that here at Rosedale we are going to continue doing and look at using as part of our mentoring and mental well-being for everyone in school, gardening and caring for the planters and school grounds all year round.
Kind Regards
