We Can Grow School Warriors

Are you passionate about getting children to grow and eat their own vegetables? Would you enjoy leading groups of children in to learn through fun, hands on outdoor gardening activities and games? You might be the very warrior we are looking for!

We Can Grow are expanding their education team. We are looking for capable and enthusiastic outdoor educators who can deliver our exciting activities to pupils in a variety of settings. These include primary schools, special schools and PRUs. Your initial training would include shadowing our existing instructors. As you become familiar with how our modules keep our planters brimming with vegetables and our pupils brimming with excitement and discovery.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the job is to get children growing and eating vegetables!

The post holder will be delivering fun, curriculum linked We Can Grow activities. Where possible these activities are delivered outdoors, growing vegetables in the planters we provide and through associated experiments, games and use of innovative information technology.

The post holder would also be responsible for spreading our vegeculture message through the school, home to families and the wider community.

Key performance areas: 

  1. Provide an Educational Service
    • Deliver inspiring sessions during breakfast clubs, in school sessions and afterschool clubs
    • Take photos make records for journal and social media
    • Involve the schools with our online planner
    • Be inclusive, adapting sessions to include pupils with English as a second language, SEND and thrive groups.
  1. Inspiring adults
    • To discuss sessions with school staff who will be attending as part of their CPD
    • Families often show a keen interest when their child joins WCG – take every opportunity to promote the We Can Grow vegeculture programme

    1. Resources and Health and Safety
      • Take responsibility for managing health and safety arrangements and risk assessments for education activities;
      • Be responsible for keeping registers and collecting and abiding by photo permission and food allergy slips
      • Abide by the schools and WCG grows policies on child safeguarding;
      • Take good care of our resources and check that they are in safe working order

    1. Relationships and communications
      • Maintain and develop good working relationships with schools, families and community organisations
      • Contribute to the production of a range of media that encourages people to grow and eat vegetables
      • Be open and supportive within the We Can Grow team

        • To be accountable for your own personal development, become familiar with our online planner, our website and social media accounts. Engage in training on various modules provided by We Can Grow
